Bronze "Spookin' Em Out Of The Canyon" By Grant Speed

_CA1469-OKSS

In this dramatic bronze, Grant Speed captures the raw energy of the West as a cowboy raises his gun, startling a herd of longhorns into a thunderous stampede out of a canyon. The sculpture bursts with motion and tension, reflecting Speed’s signature “Loose Realism” and deep understanding of cowboy life. A striking tribute to grit, instinct, and the untamed spirit of the range.

Grant Speed, born in 1930 in San Angelo, Texas, was a cowboy long before he became a celebrated western sculptor. A former rodeo rider, ranch hand, Air Force serviceman, and teacher, Speed began sculpting at night while teaching school, driven by a deep love for western art. His dedication paid off, leading him to join the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America in 1965, eventually serving as its president. Known for his “Loose Realism” style, Speed’s dynamic bronzes reflect the grit, movement, and heart of cowboy life. Today, his work is held in major collections and public installations across the West, though he humbly admits he’d still be happy “just cowboyin’.”
