The Back on Track Obsidian 150g Turnout Blanket is a waterproof and breathable turnout designed for chilly, wet weather and fluctuating temperatures. Made with a durable 1680-denier outer and 150-gram insulating fill, the blanket features an anatomical fit that follows the horse's contours while allowing freedom of movement. Pressure-absorbing foam over the withers slightly lifts the blanket to help reduce pressure and chafing, while the smooth woven lining provides additional comfort. Welltex® technology throughout the blanket reflects body heat as infrared energy to support circulation and mobility in the horse's muscles and joints.

A matching detachable neck cover with 100-gram fill is included and attaches with seamless hook-and-loop strips designed to help prevent water from running inside the blanket. Double shoulder buckles, V-front closures, crisscross surcingles, and a plastic-covered tail strap help keep the blanket securely positioned. Reflective piping adds visibility, while special front and rear attachments allow the Obsidian to layer seamlessly with the Back on Track Rhyolite Insulated Liner when additional warmth is needed.

Instructions

To ensure your Back on Track items remain effective and in great condition, we recommend hand washing and air drying, especially for products with hard cases. Soft fabric items may be machine washed on a gentle cycle, but air drying is still best to maintain their quality. Tumble Dry on low heat is an alternative option for soft fabric items only. Hard goods (protective boots and the like) should only be hand washed and air dried.

All Back on Track products share three key care instructions:

  • Do not wash at high temperatures
  • Do not iron with a hot iron
  • Hang Dry or tumble dry lowest temperature

These precautions help preserve the material’s integrity, such as elasticity and shape—not the therapeutic effect, which is embedded in the fabric and cannot be washed out or worn away.

If you're ever unsure about how to care for a specific item, hand washing and air drying is the safest option.

  • Turn items inside out before washing (e.g., garments, coats, blankets)
  • Use a mild detergent without enzymes and always air dry if possible. When opting to Tumble dry use low heat.
  • Avoid bleach and fabric softeners
  • For knitted items, lay flat on a towel to dry
  • Waterproof or water-resistant products should be washed with gentle detergent; avoid those containing Aluminum Chloride, Enzymes, Silver, or Citrine, as they may damage the mineral-infused textiles
  • Apparel and performance gear should be washed in cold water. If shrinkage occurs, gently stretch the item while wet to restore its original shape, then air dry

Avoid storing products indirect sunlight for extended periods, as this can degrade the material over time.

Size & Fit

The measurements are a guide to finding the correct size.

  • Measure in centimeters using a measuring tape.
  • Make sure your horse is relaxed and standing properly.
  • Measure both back length and body length, then choose your horse’s size from the table.

Measuring Instructions

A — Back Length (cm)
Measure from the withers to the base of the tail.

B — Body Length (cm)
Measure from the center point of the chest to the center of the tail. Subtract 10 cm from the resulting measurement to determine the correct size for your horse.

If the horse is heavier built, choose one size up for the best fit.
