Underwood Pet Medicine
The Underwood Horse Medicine Topical Wound Spray is a specialized veterinary external skin treatment designed to support rapid scab formation and tissue repair on animals. Intended strictly for topical application on cuts, abrasions, and external sores, this unique liquid formula is engineered to be used in conjunction with a light dusting of dry baking powder. Together, they create a dry, structured barrier over the injury that mimics a natural scab. By eliminating the need for traditional bandages or water-based flushing, this method provides a dry, open-air environment that helps manage moisture levels, which is a critical factor in preventing the development of exuberant granulation tissue (proud flesh) in equine injuries.
Product Highlights
-
Rapid Structural Scab Formation – Works in tandem with baking powder to form a layered, protective crust that seals the wound from external debris.

Proud Flesh Prevention – Built around a strictly dry-care philosophy that denies bacteria and proud flesh the moist, enclosed environments they require to thrive.
-
No-Bandage Convenience – Ideal for large, awkwardly located, or unbandaged injuries on active animals that resist traditional dressings.
-
Time & Labor Efficiency – Eliminates the daily stress and expense of washing, flushing, or wrapping wounds, making the care process straightforward for handlers.
-
Versatile Animal Application – Suitable for a wide variety of superficial livestock, equine, and large pet skin wounds or abrasions.
Product Specifications
-
Volume: 12 fl. oz.
-
Formulation Type: Topical Liquid Wound Dressing (To be paired with baking powder)
-
Primary Indications: Cuts, scrapes, abrasions, and open sores prone to proud flesh
-
Care Philosophy: Air-exposed, moisture-free, non-flushed wound management
Application Instructions
-
Do Not Flush or Wash: Avoid cleaning the wound with water, peroxide, or liquid rinses prior to or during treatment, as adding moisture can disrupt the dry barrier and irritate the tissue.
-
Spray the Liquid: Shake the bottle well. Apply a thorough layer of the liquid medicine directly onto the entire surface of the wound.
-
Lightly Dust with Baking Powder: Immediately apply a very light dusting of standard baking powder over the wet medicine. Do not pack or press the powder into the wound. A light dust allows the layer to form tiny micro-cracks as it dries, ensuring subsequent medicine applications can penetrate down to the tissue.
-
Leave Unwrapped: Do not apply gauze, vet wrap, or bandages. The wound must remain exposed to fresh air.
-
Frequency: Apply a minimum of twice daily. More frequent applications can be performed to build up the protective layers and expedite the recovery process.
-
Avoid External Moisture: Keep the animal stalled or sheltered away from wet morning dew, rain, or muddy conditions, as water will dissolve the protective powder shield.
