Matt Humphries Bits & Spurs - Spur, Texas
Raised on the rich ranching traditions of West Texas, master artisan Matt Humphries has built an exceptional reputation for producing some of the finest premium bits and spurs in the Western industry. The grandson of Jim Humphreys—the iconic sixth manager of the historic Pitchfork Land & Cattle Company—Matt grew up in Dickens, Texas, learning the fundamentals of the craft directly from his father, Jimbo. After refining his techniques under acclaimed makers like Joe Spiller and taking specialized engraving classes in Alpine, Texas, Matt established his own full-time shop upon graduating from Texas Tech University. Today, operating out of his father's old workshop in Spur, Texas, Matt blends deep generational ranching knowledge with technical mastery to forge balanced, durable hardware that "rides right" and communicates seamlessly.
Every piece of Matt Humphries hardware is engineered to meet the brutal demands of daily ranch work while exhibiting the flawless refinement required for elite arena performance. He is highly celebrated for his striking, deep-relief silver-mounted detailing and custom trophy work, including his coveted silver-mounted trophy spurs and O-ring slow twist snaffles. Utilizing premium materials like sweet iron mouthpieces, strategic copper inlays to encourage salivation, and impeccable sterling silver overlays, his hardware delivers precise mechanical leverage and an exceptional feel. Built to endure a lifetime of hard use and beautifully hand-finished, Matt Humphries Bits & Spurs represent a premier investment in authentic Texas cowboy heritage.
