Billy Klapper
Billy Klapper (1937–2024) was a legendary Pampa, Texas-based artisan and one of the most revered bit and spur makers in Western history. Renowned for his one-piece spurs—a rare technique where the entire spur is forged from a single piece of steel without welding—Klapper’s work is prized for its exceptional balance, durability, and "feel".
A student of the great Adolph Bayers, Klapper developed a massive catalog of 682 spur patterns and 816 bit patterns during his 60-year career, including the iconic No. 27 bit.
His legacy as the "cowboy's maker" was recently immortalized through a cameo appearance as himself in the television series Yellowstone, and he was posthumously inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame as a 2025 legendary maker.
