Born Asa Lynn “Ace” Powell on April 3, 1912 in Tularosa, NM, the prolific artist was largely self-taught, but did take several lessons in his youth with Charles Marion Russell. With his mentor, Powell developed his signature—an Ace of Diamonds. He studied at the University of Montana through the G.I.
